PREPARATION THE KEY TO SUCCESS
The year 2010 has not kicked off to a confident start in the hospitality business. Several very high profile closures of restaurant businesses has sent chilling winds through the industry. These are being followed by a host of smaller closures which are mainly going onnoticed except by those directly affected.
The industry is a demanding one at the best of times but throw in collapsing property prices, shrinking disposable incomes and a general feeling of unease in the spending public, it is no wonder that Irish food service business owners are feeling under pressure.
It has been my experience that much of the financial, emotional and mental heartache could be avoided with the necessary preparation to set up and operate a food service business in the first place.
WIth this in mind, the Abbeyleix Restaurant and Kitchen Management Academy will be launched in late August this year- 2010- to provide the opportunity for all those who need the skills and knowledge to manage and/ or open a food service business. The course, which will run for 12 weeks will include a period in the world renowned Ballymaloe Cookery School as an introduction to the importance of serving quality food, a placement in industry during the course followed by a six month mentored placement to hone the skills learned during the course. The course will equip the participant - be they a beginner or an industry practioner with the skills to effectively and efficiently manage a food service business. There will be a strong emphasis on developing the personal skills to be a manager and the professional skills to manage a kitchen and front of house operation.
The course facilitators will be the best industry has to offer and will include those across a range of industries where those skills are relevant to the food service sector.
Our brochure giving full details will be posted shortly.
As was stated by a well known Irish footballer - Fail to Prepare and you Prepare to Fail.
